Terms of use

By using What EV you agree to these terms. This version applies to visitors in the United Kingdom. Last updated 2026.

What this site is

What EV provides free tools and written guides to help UK drivers compare the running costs of electric, petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, shortlist electric models, and assess the battery health of a used EV. It is an information service only.

No advice

Nothing on this site is financial, tax, legal or purchasing advice. Every figure is an estimate in pounds sterling built from published UK averages and live UK price feeds, and your real costs will differ depending on your driving, tariff, insurer, vehicle and finance arrangement. Always check figures with the relevant supplier before committing to a purchase or lease.

Accuracy and availability

We take care to keep our assumptions current and to state them openly on the results pages, but we do not warrant that the site or its third-party price feeds are accurate, complete or continuously available. Where a live feed is unavailable we fall back to a stored UK average and label it as such. Range figures shown for UK models are WLTP figures, and battery health results are modelled estimates rather than a diagnostic scan.

Acceptable use

You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not scrape, overload or attempt to disrupt the service, submit automated or abusive volumes of form data, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the system.

No affiliate links or commissions

What EV does not carry affiliate, referral or sponsored links, and we do not earn a commission from dealers, lenders, leasing brokers, charge point operators or insurers. Our rankings, reviews and cost calculations are independent of any commercial relationship.

Intellectual property

Site content, calculations and guide text belong to What EV. Vehicle images and manufacturer names remain the property of their respective owners and are used for identification purposes.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from decisions made on the basis of information on this site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud. Your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law are unaffected.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the site develops; the current version always appears here. See our privacy policy for how we handle data.
