Charging speeds and connectors in Australia
A glossary for the terms you will see on the map.
- Slow (up to 3kW)
- A 3-pin domestic socket. Overnight top-ups only.
- Fast (7–22kW)
- Home wallboxes, workplaces, car parks — the everyday option.
- Rapid (25–99kW)
- Roadside and service-station charging, roughly 30–45 minutes to 80%.
- Ultra-rapid (100kW+)
- Highway charging, 10–80% in about 20 minutes on a capable car.
- CCS
- The DC standard on virtually every new EV sold in Australia.
- Type 2
- The AC plug used for home, workplace and destination charging.
- CHAdeMO
- Legacy DC standard, mainly older Nissan Leafs.
- Tesla Supercharger
- Open to non-Tesla drivers at most Australian sites.
